Riz Ahmed and Aneil Karia have won Best Short Film (Live Action) for The Long Goodbye tonight at the 2022 Oscars. It’s his first-ever Academy Award. “This is for everyone who feels like they’re stuck in No Man’s Land,” Ahmed said in his acceptance speech. “You’re not alone. We’ll meet you there.” Watch it below.
At the Academy Awards last year, Ahmed was nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his role as a punk-metal drummer in Sound of Metal. The film was also nominated for Best Picture.
Back in 2020, Ahmed released the concept album The Long Goodbye. The LP saw the British-Pakistani actor, musician, and activist recounting what it’s like to be Brown and British in the modern day.
