Stone Island and Daniel Arsham Join Forces To Unveil Customized Porsche 930 and Unimog 404

Daniel Arsham continues to step out of the box for his creations, this time collaborating with coveted streetwear design brand Stone Island on a customized Porsche 930 and a Mercedes Unimog 404. The vehicles are reimagined for all-terrain purposes using reimagined heritage Stone Island fabrics for the aesthetic.

The project, titled Safari first features a Leh Keen-built Porsche. The car uses a 1986 Porsche 911 Turbo as its based and is customized so that it is suitable for off-road use. The design managed to maintain many original ’70s and ’80s pieces in its modification process into a proper rally car. On top of the off-road tires and heightened suspensions that ready the vehicle for all-terrain conditions, the car features an external light pod on the front hood, additional bumpers on both the front and rear as well as skid plats that run the length of the underside of the car.

In addition to the Porsche redesign, the project also includes a reimagined Unimog 404 that goes alongside the Safari. Typically, in rally races, the cars are tailed by a recovery vehicle in case of emergency. The Unimog 404 features bespoke Stone Island Tela Stella in a custom drab green that covers the bed of the truck. The Stone Island craftsmanship is seen throughout the interiors and exteriors, complementing the details of the vehicles’ structural make.

Seat covers for both cars have a function-first focus and are constructed using moleskin from Stone Island to further enhance the driver’s seat grip when off-road. To ensure that the dusted effect is prominent throughout, the fabric went through a dye and lasering process that highlights Arsham Studio’s monogram camouflage and quintessential Stone Island patterns. To commemorate the project, Stone Island and Arsham have also released a limited number of jumpsuits featuring the same design techniques alongside Tela Stella carry-all bags. However, these pieces are only available for friends and family.

The Safari and Unimog will be on display at the La Brea Stone Island Store in Los Angeles on March 19 and 20.
