Father John Misty Unveils ‘Goodbye Mr. Blue’ Music Video

Father John Misty recently released his newest single “Goodbye Mr. Blue” from his new album Chloë and the Next 20th Century. The single reveals Josh Tillman in a state of intimacy: a stripped-down, country-folk tune exuding warmth from fingerpicked guitar riffs and Harry Nilsson-inspired lyrics. Tillman was also inspired by hearty singer-songwriters such as Jim Croce and John Denver.

The accompanying video paints, according to a release, “an elliptical portrait of a family reunion filmed on location in Sofia, Bulgaria.” Directed by Noel Paul, the bittersweet pastel images of family and returning home offer a comforting backdrop for Tillman’s recent single. The story follows a young woman’s journey to her family home as she travels to Sofia.

Father John Misty’s Chloé and The Next 20th Century will be released April 8, 2022 via Sub Pop and Bella Union in Europe. The album features singles “Funny Girl,” “Q4,” and “Kiss Me (I Loved You),” all of which were released earlier this year. This is Father John Misty’s first full-length LP release since his 2018 record God’s Favorite Customer.

To accompany the release of the album, Father John Misty will be performing at two sold-out shows in the intimate Rainbow Room in New York City with performances happening in Kingston, UK as well.
