‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse Of Madness’ Producer Responds To Rumors of Professor X’s Return and Illuminati Introduction

Marvel fans have been pitching their theories about the return of Professor X when he was teased in the latest Doctor Strange in the Multiverse Of Madness trailer, but film producer Richie Palmer is telling fans to keep an open mind.

Speaking to Empire, Palmer quote the first X-Men movie in response to the possible return of Patrick Stewart‘s Charles Xavier: “‘Are you sure you saw what you saw?’” He added, “There are infinite versions of these characters, and just because you may have heard something familiar doesn’t mean it’s someone you have seen before.”

The producer also clarified the other rumors claiming that Professor X’s return is part of the MCU’s introduction of the cabal the Illuminati, which reportedly “at times featured Xavier, plus Iron Man, Mr Fantastic, and Doctor Strange himself” in the comic books. “As you saw in Spider-Man: No Way Home, some rumors ended up being true, some did not,” he shared. “I would love to see Tony again, but some rumours are just rumours. I will say that I love the Illuminati. But if we ever introduce the Illuminati in the future, it might be more MCU-driven and have some more ties to our characters in the MCU, versus just replicating what’s in the comics.”

Although Palmer did not confirm Stewart’s return, the veteran actor himself seemingly confirmed his reprisal of the role earlier this month. “I actually didn’t recognize my own voice. It sounded different. Whether I had a cold or something at the time, I don’t know,” Stewart explained. “I was astonished — and all they saw was the back of my shoulder and I think my earlobe, nothing else — that there would have been so many connections made. But it pleased me [to see the reactions].”

The latest Doctor Strange in the Multiverse Of Madness trailer hinted at Professor X’s return when a shot of the back of a bald man’s head with a voice very similar to that of Stewart’s said “We should tell him the truth.”

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse Of Madness premieres May 6.

Elsewhere in entertainment, Alligator Loki has received his own spinoff.
