Arcade Fire to Release New Song in Five Years

Arcade Fire to Release New Song in Five Years

Arcade Fire just announced their first new single in five years, “The Lightning I, II”  to be released on Thursday, March, 17. The announcement comes after the band sent fans a series of postcards that said “We missed you” with a color graphic of the chords for the new song, with other doodles in the margins. The band shared the news with the broader public on Twitter this morning.

Arcade Fire have not released an album since 2017’s Everything Now, although they have been promising a new album since 2020 when they celebrated the 10th anniversary of their iconic The Suburbs. Two years after the release of Everything Now, the band shared a cover of “Baby Mine” for Tim Burton’s Dumbo. Within the past couple of years, the band has performed an unreleased song called “Generation A” on Stephen Colbert’s Election Night 2020 and made “Memories of the Age of Anxiety” for the Headspace app.

Arcade Fire is performing in New Orleans tonight at the Toulouse Theatre for a benefit concert for Ukraine. Proceeds from the show will go to Plus1’s Ukraine Relief Fund.
