Lister’s Seven-Liter V12 Jaguar XJ-S HE Is a Classic British Brute

Lister’s Seven-Liter V12 Jaguar XJ-S HE Is a Classic British Brute

Lister is a historic British racing company that dominated the U.K. racing scene in the 1950s, winning almost every circuit in Britain with the likes of Stirling Moss behind the wheel of its classic machines. Today, it’s better known as a tuning company that reworks already fast Jaguars such as the F-Type R and F-Pace SVR by giving them a heap of power, a revised body kit, and a limited production run, and now one of its legendary models has come up for sale courtesy of Classic Driver.

This 1985 Lister-Jaguar XJ-S HE was born as a V12 cabriolet, but after just a few years it was given the full Lister treatment. As such, it packs a seven-liter V12 engine that produced 496 BHP and 510 lb-ft. of torque at the time, however, it has since been treated to a new ECU and KWE’s bespoke engine management system to provide an extra 60 HP. Paired to a Getrag five-speed manual gearbox and a rear-wheel-drive set-up, the Lister is one lairy machine, which is only accentuated by its exterior and interior upgrades.

Lister bodywork graces every panel, adding plenty of width to the wheel arches and details such as side skirts and a lip spoiler at the rear, while a new suspension kit lowers the car for a more aggressive stance. A big bore exhaust system promises grunt, while custom Lister coachlines, logos, and modular wheels now adorn the exterior. Inside, the interior has been reupholstered in a two-tone leather makeover, appearing alongside a new steering wheel and a re-finished cabriolet roof.

This is believed to be the first Lister MkIII Cabriolet constructed, and as a result of its provenance and restoration, it doesn’t come cheap. Head over to Classic Driver to find out more about this $164,428 USD monster that you see above.

Elsewhere in the automotive world, HYPEBEAST recently got up close with the Volkswagen ID. BUZZ.
