Apple TV+ Drops ‘They Call Me Magic’ Trailer Celebrating LA Lakers Legend

Apple TV+ has dropped off the official trailer for They Call Me Magic, an upcoming four-part docuseries centering on the life and career of former Los Angeles Lakers superstar Earvin “Magic” Johnson.

They Call Me Magic will chronicle the real-life story of Johnson, beginning with his early life in Lansing, Michigan, and following his impactful life’s work on the court, as an all-time NBA legend for the Los Angeles Lakers, and off the court, as both an entrepreneur and an activist shifting the conversation around HIV.

The docuseries includes exclusive interviews with Johnson and his family, as well as several public figures including Cookie Johnson, EJ Johnson, Larry Bird, LL Cool J, Snoop Dogg, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Jordan, Shaquille O’Neal, former President Barack Obama, Fred Stabley Jr., Dwyane Wade, Jerry West and Michael Wilbon.

The series, which is directed by Rick Famuyiwa, recently premiered during the SXSW Film Festival and is scheduled to land on the streamer on April 22. XTR and New Slate Ventures produced the project for Apple, alongside H. Wood Media and Delirio Films, Bryn Mooser executive produced the series with Christina Arquette, Jeremy Allen, Rafael Marmor and John Terzian.
