The bestselling manga series in the world, One Piece, is receiving an official trading card game courtesy of toy company Bandai.
One Piece Trading Card Game will launch with four starter decks themed after four groups from the series including the Straw Hats, the Worst Generation, Animal Kingdom Pirates, and the Seven Warlords of the Sea. The first series of booster packs will be titled titled “Romance Dawn” after the first chapter of the manga.
Series creator and artist Eiichiro Oda shared his excitement in a post writing,
“A new trading card game is on the way!!! I don’t know much about card games but this is something like Yu-Gi-Oh! right?! They jump out from the cards, yeah?!! I heard they’re going to use illustrations from the original work and release it worldwide. They’re really going all out. And I’ll see it through until the end!! Let’s go, One Piece Card Game!! I can’t wait!
The trading card game will launch July 2022 in Japan, with an English release to follow later this year. Starter decks are priced at ¥990 JPY (approximately $9 USD) and booster packs at approximately $2 USD. Official card sleeves will also be available for purchase.
