Zoë Kravitz arrived at “The Batman” premiere in New York and certainly dressed the part as Catwoman. Kravitz, who plays the character Selina Kyle alongside Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne, wore a custom Oscar de la Renta dress with the silhouette of two black cats at the bust.
Kravitz’s dress draws the perfect line between camp and elegant. The custom floor-length, strapless black gown features a plunging keyhole at the bust that goes straight down to her navel. The opening at the bust is fastened by corset-inspired lacing, and the silhouette of each kitty is perfectly positioned over each breast.
Eagle-eyed fashion critic and Instagram account Diet Prada quickly spotted Oscar de la Renta’s design reference thanks to research done by vintage expert Cherie Balch of Shrimpton Couture. “Kitty Titties 🐱”, Diet Prada dubbed the cheeky Catwoman-inspired look, further explaining in the caption that Oscar de la Renta’s custom “Kitty” gown for Kravitz bears striking resemblance to a similar piece by Helmut Lang from the designer’s 1989 collection —1989 is also the year that the first instalment of Warner Bros’s “Batman” film series was released. Coincidence? We think not.
Kravitz completed her look with a statement, Audrey Hepburn-inspired micro fringe, mismatched diamond earrings, and minimal cat-eye eyeliner. Keep reading for a closer look at Zoë Kravitz’s Oscar de la Renta dress at “The Batman” premiere in New York.
