‘Ghostwire: Tokyo’ Drops a Visual Novel ‘Prelude’ To Set Up the Game

‘Ghostwire: Tokyo’ Drops a Visual Novel ‘Prelude’ To Set Up the Game

Ahead of Ghostwire: Tokyo‘s release later this month, Bethesda and Tango Gameworks have now released a free-to-play Prelude that will set up the upcoming game.

Now available, the short game will center around lead character KK, a detective investigating a series of strange events half a year before the time of the actual game itself. The developer hopes to give players a better understanding of who KK is and why he does what he does, which it says will help when you’re playing the full Ghostwire: Tokyo.

“There’s a different, kind of more relaxed atmosphere in the visual novel,” scenario writer Takahiro Kaji said in a Sony PlayStation blog post. “KK is a veteran, accustomed to the situation, working within his realm of expertise and there’s good teamwork with Rinko’s group. By understanding KK a little better through [Ghostwire: Tokyo – Prelude], the player would be able to gain more perspective and see another side to KK’s dialogue in [Ghostwire: Tokyo].”

For those interested in checking the experience out, Ghostwire: Tokyo – Prelude is now available for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, and the PC version will follow on March 8. All versions will be free to play.

Elsewhere in gaming, Bungie says it’ll ban Destiny 2 players who try to run the game on the Steam Deck.
