Nintendo Has Pulled ‘Super Smash Bros.’ From EVO 2022

Nintendo Has Pulled ‘Super Smash Bros.’ From EVO 2022

Nintendo has now pulled Super Smash Bros. from EVO 2022.

According to the tournament organizers, the gaming company has decided to no longer allow their game to be played or broadcasted for the event this year. “We want to let you know in advance that Super Smash Bros. will not be making a return appearance,” the organizers tweeted. “Since 2007, we’ve seen historic Super Smash Bros. moments created at EVO’s events. We are saddened that Nintendo has chosen not to continue that legacy with us this year.”

Nintendo’s decision to withdraw Super Smash Bros. titles from the annual fighting game event comes following a partnership announced back in November last year with Panda Global, which will help the Japanese gaming giant host its own competitive circuit based around the game. While Nintendo hasn’t explicitly acknowledged that this is the reason why Super Smash Bros. will no longer be part of EVO, it’s highly likely to be a major factor in the decision-making process.

“Nintendo has enjoyed engaging with fans at past Evo tournaments and wish the show organizers the best with their new venture,” Nintendo said at the time of the partnership announcement. “We will continue to assess Evo, and other opportunities, as we plan for future online and offline Super Smash Bros. tournament activity.”

As for fans who are still looking forward to EVO 2022 regardless of Super Smash Bros., the event will host an announcement show on March 8 over on Twitch where you’ll be able to learn more.

In other gaming news, Valve says it’s open to helping Microsoft bring PC Game Pass to Steam.
