Arghavan Khosravi’s multilayered artwork draws on personal memories to comment on the paradoxical experience of growing up in modern-day Iran. In the past, she has created a number of symbolic tapestries, such as a recent collaboration with Case Studyo, that alludes to the persistent restrictions and censorship that are posed on women in her native country.
The Persian-born, New York-based artist has worked with Avant Arte on an upcoming edition, titled The Morning Light, that further investigates fragmented notions of identity. Emblematic of Khosravi’s oeuvre is her meticulous choice of materials — from found objects such as books, to traditional Persian rug weaving and a striking red cord that punctures in and out of her compositions.
The Morning Light features the face of a woman, perhaps her own, printed on a book that is attached to a larger canvas which is woven together through her choice red string. Despite the heavy subject matter to which Khosravi speaks on, the work’s title nods to its seamless yellow gradients, and to the sense of quiet optimism emanating from its subject. The Morning Light is an edition of 20 that will be available for $3,419 USD on March 9, 2022 at 9am EST via Avant Arte.
