Back in October, Parley for the Oceans partnered up with graffiti legend Kenny Scharf on a series of surfboards that paid homage to the shorelines of Tulum. The non-profit returns with a new surf-inspired collaboration with German artist, Rosemarie Trockel.
Based on Charles Baudelaire’s Les Fleurs du Mal, Albatros presents 20 limited-edition boards that unite a surfer’s love for the ocean and an artist’s imaginative call for change. Each is a surfable symbol and a call for eco-innovation, creativity and collaboration to protect our oceans. Like surfers, albatrosses glide above the waves imbued with the forces of the oceans. They both represent “winged voyagers” which collide in the typographic artwork of the surfboard.
World-renowned for her drawings, paintings, sculptures, collages, ceramics and textiles, Trockel’s work is hailed for its subtle social critique that often utilizes subversive, aesthetic strategies — from a reinterpretation of the “feminine” and the ironic shifting of cultural codes, to a playful delight in paradoxes and a refusal to conform to the commercial and institutional ideologies of the art world.
The profits of the sales will benefit Parley’s Global Clean Up Network to help end marine plastic pollution around the world. Please visit Parley’s website for more information.
Elsewhere in art, Karl Hab captured the magic of the French capital in 24H PARIS.
