Live-Action ‘Blade Runner’ TV Series in the Works With Ridley Scott

Amazon Studios is working on a live-action Blade Runner series, according to Deadline.

Ridley Scott, the original director of the 1982 film, will executive produce the series, which is titled Blade Runner 2099. The series will arrive as a follow-up to the 2017 feature film sequel Blade Runner 2049, which was helmed by Denis Villeneuve.

The project is currently in priority development at Amazon, and the company is fast-tracking scripts and working on solidifying production dates. Scott is in talks to direct once the series moves forward, according to sources via Deadline.

The original Blade Runner, which stars Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer, Sean Young and Edward James Olmos, follows a fugitive group of bio-engineered synthetic humans as they escape to Earth while working on space colonies in the year 2019. Meanwhile, the 2017 film, which takes place in 2049, sees Ryan Gosling star as an advanced replicant who discovers a dangerous secret that poses a major threat to society. Blade Runner 2099 will take place 50 years following the happenings of the film sequel, as noted in the title.

Blade Runner 2099 will be the latest addition to the franchise, following Blade Runner: Black Lotus, an anime series that premiered on Adult Swim and Crunchyroll last year.

Elsewhere in entertainment, the final season of Better Call Saul has received an official premiere date.
