It’s been a little over three years since adidas announced its kit partnership deal with Arsenal, and the brand has now partnered with the club for a new anti youth knife crime initiative. Titled “No More Red,” the project includes three key pillars from adidas and Arsenal, and launches with a special-edition jersey.
The main focuses of the initiative include investing in and refurbishing safe spaces to play football, launching a mentorship scheme pairing young people in the community with creatives including Idris Elba, Ian Wright and Reuben Dangoor, and using adidas talent to offer training, positive role models and tangible opportunities through the Arsenal in the Community programme.
Marking the launch of “No More Red,” Arsenal and adidas have created an all-white jersey to be worn by the team in its FA Cup 3rd round match against Nottingham Forest. The kit will never be available commercially, and all 10 match-worn jerseys will be donated to community organisations that are addressing the root causes of knife crime and youth violence.
Launching the project, Arsenal legend Ian Wright said:
“Every young person deserves the opportunity to express themselves. The opportunity to exist within a safe environment. The opportunity to live free from fear of violence. We can never accept loss of life through youth violence as ‘normal’ in our city and it’s so important that we all work together to create a better environment for young people. By giving young people more places to play sport, more support, and access to individuals
who can inspire them, together we can help make a difference to young people in London.”
The special-edition jersey can be viewed in the gallery above, and more information on “No More Red” is available on the adidas website.
