Oscars 2022 Shortlists: Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Billie Eilish, Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood, and More

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced 10 shortlists for the 2022 Oscars. The Documentary Feature shortlist includes Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry, Questlove’s Summer of Soul (…Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised), and Todd Haynes’ The Velvet Underground.

The Original Score category includes two slots each for Jonny Greenwood and Hans Zimmer: The Radiohead multi-instrumentalist is recognized for The Power of the Dog and Spencer, while Zimmer got shortlist placements for Dune and No Time to Die. In addition, Alexandre Desplat made the shortlist for The French Dispatch of the Liberty, Kansas Evening Sun and Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe made it for Candyman.

The Original Song shortlist features Billie Eilish and Finneas’ “No Time to Die,” as well as Beyoncé’s King Richard track “Be Alive.” As The New York Times notes, recognition for Original Song would give Beyoncé her first Academy Award nomination. Also vying for an Oscar nod is Beyoncé’s husband Jay-Z, who made the shortlist for “Guns Go Bang,” his Harder They Fall collaboration with Kid Cudi and director Jeymes Samuel. Cudi also made the shortlist for the Ariana Grande collaboration “Just Look Up.” Find the full shortlists for Original Score and Original Song below.

The 2021 Academy Award for Best Original Song went to H.E.R. for “Fight for You.” She has a chance to defend her trophy as her Bruised song “Automatic Woman” made the 2022 shortlist. Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross, and Jon Batiste took home the 2021 Academy Award for Best Original Score for Soul.
