Harry Nuriev Brings You to “The Bedroom” With Latest Installation for Design Miami

Harry Nuriev, the founder of Crosby Studios, unveiled his latest installation — entitled “The Bedroom” — for Design Miami as part of his current series of works that explore transitory spaces as metaphors. The Russian-born architect and designer recently showcased the first part of the lineup that depicts “traveling through different layers of space, reality, and consciousness,” with the “The Elevator” and “The Garage” spaces.

Incorporating his background consisting of inspirations from Russian craft traditions, material culture, and childhood, Nuriev shaped up functional sculptures and designed alluring environments once he moved to New York from Moscow. Through Crosby Studios, Nuriev has consistently been playing around with mixed-reality and mixed-use spaces creating a bold and expressive atmosphere within any kind of surrounding.

His latest installation invites viewers into a floor-to-ceiling silver room housing a matching silver Ryokan-style mattress. Resembling the sunrise and sunset hues a moving gradient LEV ceiling display transforms the mood of the room in a way to remind people of a bedroom’s multi-purpose nature. The room is a representation of a bedroom which can also be a space to escape reality, meditate, experience vulnerability, and access different levels of awareness—whether in a state of dreaming, or in a state of sexual, intellectual, or creative ecstasy. Taking inspiration from periods of quarantine, Nuriev realizes the reconnection with our bedrooms and living spaces as we begin and end our days in the same place.

In case you missed it, Pipilotti Rist brought her ethereal installations to MOCA’s Geffen Contemporary.
