In support of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s directorial debut, Netflix has partnered with public performing arts schools across the country to empower the next generation of performing artists.
Miranda recently released the film Tick, Tick… Boom, based on a musical of the same name written by American composer Jonathan Larson, the mind behind the musical Rent. The adaptation, available on Netflix, stars Andrew Garfield, Robin de Jesus, Alexandra Shipp, Joshua Henry and Vanessa Hudgens.
Five participating public schools and organizations — Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing & Visual Arts in Dallas, Baltimore School for the Arts in Baltimore, ChiArts in Chicago, Los Angeles County High School for the Arts in Los Angeles and TADA! Youth Theater in New York — created and produced their own unique renditions of the screenplay’s musical piece, “Louder than Words.” The pieces included vocal, choreographic and audio/visual performances by students.
Check out the performances above. You can watch Tik, Tik…Boom in select theatres and on Netflix.
In other news, Netflix has launched a weekly top 10 list for most-watched films and TV shows.
