After launching his “Hetaverse” Twitter account, performance and contemporary artist Zhang Huan has announced his entry into the NFT metaverse with his The NFT Art Trilogy series. Celebrated for his layered concepts, Zhang is regarded as an important Chinese artist, widely known for his early performance art centered around existential explorations and social commentary.
Presented by online-offline NFT curating name EchoX, Zhang Huan partnered with the State Hermitage Museum to create The NFT Art Trilogy. The latest selection of work is comprised of Ash Square, The Celestial Burial of an Artist and Poppy Fields will be displayed at the museum’s Ethereal Aether virtual NFT exhibition.
For The Celestial Burial of an Artist, Zhang Huan invites his audience to participate by entering a virtual game room one by one, interacting and attempting to eliminate his avatar dressed in a golden meat suit. Audience members can then decide to mint their interactions into an NFT, 2,500 NFTs will come together to create the monumental artwork set to be on display. The inventive piece of work will serve as Zhang’s debut into the world of NFT and a stand as the world’s first NFT performance art piece. To take part in the The Celestial Burial of an Artist, interested parties must apply by joining a whitelist (November 5-15).
The Poppy Fields artwork taps into the nature of crypto, with Zhang offering a share of the copyright of the NFT to buyers in the form of mystery boxes. The piece builds on the artist’s signature series recently featured in Dior‘s “Dior Lady Art” collaboration.
