Edward Gaming Defeats Damwon Kia to Win ‘League of Legends’ Worlds 2021

Following a historic tournament run, China’s Edward Gaming has defeated Korea’s DAMWON KIA to win the 2021 League of Legends World Championship.

This year marked the 11th annual LoL Worlds, which was played in Reykjavik, Iceland with millions tuning in online. The festivities began with an opening show featuring Imagine Dragons alongside PVRIS, Bea Miller, JID, and Denzel Curry. The following 5-game finals series was heavily contested and resulted in one of the largest upsets in LoL history.

Edward Gaming defeated DAMWON KIA by a narrow 3-2 to bring home a huge win for the LPL Chinese league, preventing DWG from winning back-to-back championships. EDG’s mid-laner Scout was named Oppo MVP for his standout performance. Interviewed following the finals victory, EDG Scout had this to say:

“I have faced so many challenges throughout this journey. I was finally able to have a good result. I’m also happy I helped Faker take revenge so I’m happy. I’m really surprised that I’m the MVP because I don’t feel that I played that well. I feel JieJie should’ve gotten this because he had an amazing performance. I appreciate all the fans from around the world who have been waiting for this moment.”

Each member of the winning team will receive an 18 karat white gold championship ring designed by Mercedes-Benz engraved with each player’s summoner name and team tri-code, and fitted with a real diamond and custom cut sapphire. Take a look at the full Worlds 2021 event above.
