Captain Kangaroo won an extended bumper at Clonmel on his first start for Mullins. That form remains very strong. Now getting another test of stamina that many National Hunt Flat race winners over further than 2m needs, he can follow-up on a maiden hurdle triumph last time out. Mullins mounts boast an impressive 28 per cent strike rate at Cork, so Captain Kangaroo is NAP of the Day for that reason. The tasty 10/3 price only makes him appeal more as Bet of the Day for 31 October, and there’s more on his claims below…

Why will Captain Kangaroo win?
The horse that Captain Kangaroo beat on his racecourse debut in the spring of 2020 was none other than Kilcruit. The runner-up has since won three of four subsequent starts, including the Dublin Racing Festival Grade 2 bumper at Leopardstown and at the highest level in the Irish Champion Bumper at Punchestown. That form alone thus commands Captain Kangaroo tons of respect.
Mullins ran him over trips that were simply too sharp for much of last season. That bumper success over Kilcruit for Captain Kangaroo came over an extended 2m 2f, so it was always likely he would be a stayer. When stepped up to 3m and on his second try over the trip at the Listowel Harvest Festival, he finally got his head in front over hurdles. What Captain Kangaroo beat that day can be questioned, but he got the job done on a flat track.
Cork has a similar course to Listowel, albeit one configured clockwise instead of anticlockwise. Captain Kangaroo also gets weight from main market rival Ballywilliam Boy, who faces a quick turnaround from his last run. Mullins has trained the winner of this race before and four of the last eight victors were six-year-olds. Those successful horses were prominent in the betting but not the market leader.
Captain Kangaroo ticks plenty of boxes and could yet still prove one to follow in staying novice hurdles this season. He therefore appeals most as the NAP of the Day today. A £25 wager on Captain Kangaroo returns £108.33 at his current price. If he doesn’t follow-up here, then QuinnBet refunds the stake as a free bet.
