‘Dune: Part 2’ Is Officially in the Works

On the heels of the newly-released Dune film, today Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures confirmed that a sequel to the sci-fi movie is in the works.

Based on Frank Herbert’s 1965 sci-fi novel, the 2021 film of the same name stars Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Oscar Isaac, Jason Momoa, Rebecca Ferguson, Stellan Skarsgård and more. The film premiered Friday, October 22, in theaters and on HBO Max, earning over $40 million USD domestically in its opening weekend and grossing over $223 million USD globally to date.

“I just received news from Legendary that we are officially moving forward with Dune: Part Two,” director Denis Villeneuve said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. “It was a dream of mine to adapt Frank Herbert’s Dune and I have the fans, the cast, and crew, Legendary and Warner Bros. to thank for supporting this dream. This is only the beginning.”

Toby Emmerich, chairman of Warner Bros. Pictures Group, added that the film is set to release in late 2023: “We are thrilled to continue on this journey with Denis and his cast and crew, and our partners at Legendary, and can’t wait to bring the next chapter of this epic tale to theaters in October 2023.”

The original cast is expected to return for the sequel, but no further details have been released at this time.

In related news, Netflix has released promotional posters for its upcoming thriller series Hellbound.
