Vienna Museums Are Now on OnlyFans to Display “Explicit” Artworks

Due to the prohibition of explicit content on social media, the city of Vienna has created an account on OnlyFans to fully display artworks that may be deemed provocative.

Known for providing freedom for users to post a full range of adults-only content, the capital of Austria has taken to the platform to present art from four of its respected museums. In recent years, foundations such as Albertina Museum and Leopold Museum have encountered issues of censorship as they attempted to post artworks containing nudity which resulted in a suspension of the account or rejection of the post. Albertina Museum’s TikTok account was recently blocked for posting works by Japanese artist and photographer Nobuyoshi Araki which featured a partially obscured breast. Leopold Museum uploaded a video on Facebook and Instagram in celebration of its 20th anniversary but was rejected as the work by Koloman Moser was flagged as “potentially pornographic.”

The tourism board of Vienna indicated that the capital along with its “art institutions are among the casualties of this new wave of prudishness,” which prompted the decision to join the platform. Subscribers to the account will be able to receive a free Vienna city card or ticket to any of the highlighted museums to visit the pieces in person.

On the other side of the globe, Barbara Kruger opened one of her largest exhibitions to date.
