Almost two years following the season two finale of HBO‘s Succession, the Emmy-winning drama series will return on October 17. And ahead of season three’s debut, HBO on Friday dropped off the official full trailer.
The visual begins in the aftermath of the jaw-dropping press conference Kendall (Jeremy Strong) gives at the end of season two, showing how family members ultimately pick sides while Kendall tries to take down his father, Logan (Brian Cox), and gain control of Waystar RoyCo.
The official logline reads, “Ambushed by his rebellious son Kendall at the end of season two, Logan Roy begins Season three in a perilous position, scrambling to secure familial, political, and financial alliances. Tensions rise as a bitter corporate battle threatens to turn into a family civil war.”
The trailer features several familiar cast members, including Sarah Snook as Shiv, Kieran Culkin as Roman, Matthew Macfayden as Tom Wambsgans, and Nicholas Braun as Cousin Greg, but also welcomes a number of newcomers, including Adrien Brody, Sanaa Lathan, Alexander Skarsgård, Jihae Kim, Hope Davis and Linda Emond.
According to a recent report from Vulture, the show’s creator Jesse Armstrong decided that the upcoming season’s scripts would not be rewritten to incorporate the COVID-19 pandemic. “These are really wealthy people,” Snook told the outlet. “And unfortunately, none of the world’s really wealthy people were going to be affected by the pandemic.”
