Prior to March 2021, seeing a Ford RS200 up for sale was as rare as a unicorn, and now Bring a Trailer has a non-Evolution spec iteration up for grabs.
As touched upon, the last RS200 we saw for sale was an Evolution model, meaning it was one of the 24 to be converted to an even more hardcore specification that made it closer to a road-going version of the Group B ’80s rally icon. Nevertheless, this standard RS200 is still quite the spectacle, and is just one of 140 ever built as per ’80s homologation regulations.
The car is powered by a turbocharged 1.8-liter Cosworth DOHC inline-four that sends 250 HP and 215 lb-ft of torque to all four wheels, making good use of a five-speed manual gearbox and three limited-slip differentials. Aside from the engine, you’re also getting an iconic Ghia-designed fiberglass composite bodywork, a roof-mounted intercooler, independent suspension with twin coilovers at each corner, magnesium alloy wheels, and red racing seats, making for a car that — inside and out — is full-blown ’80s rally goodness.
As per the RS200 tradition, this example is finished in “Diamond White” and despite its age, the car is in incredibly good condition with just under 3,500 miles on the clock. No wonder, then, as to why this RS200 is currently listed on Bring a Trailer with a bid of $226,000 USD — and there are still three hours to go.
