The Manchester-based music label founder Michael Adex has opened the doors of his new creative headquarters — a space which he hopes will become a community centre to foster and enervate British music.
Just over 12 months ago, the now-called NQ House was a derelict conservative club just a short drive out of the city. Today, the 5000 sqft venue has been renovated into the home of NQ, the label that bolstered the career of chart-topping rapper (and Manchester resident) Aitch. With the space, and the community project more broadly, Adex wants to offer a platform to launch artists from the North of England. The city of Manchester has a long-ranging association with music, spawning artists as diverse as Joy Division, Happy Mondays, and New Order.
NQ House comes complete with 3 recording studios, a multi-use performance and office space and even an podcast zone. Beside recording artists, Adex hopes to bring in the local creative community with a membership scheme to use NQ House, saying, “we hope to incubate creative businesses that make sense to be next to each other and can benefit one another”. From production companies to graphic designers and photographers, the hub will lend itself as a collaborative creative space for Mancunians.
