According to reports, Anthony Mackie is now set to play John Doe in the live-action adaptation of Twisted Metal.

Mackie will both star and executive produce Sony Pictures Television and Playstation Productions‘ project centered around the Sony Computer Entertainment vehicular combat video game. The TV series will be written by Cobra Kai writer Michael Jonathan Smith and see Will Arnett, Marc Forman and more serve as executive producers alongside Mackie.

The live-action adaptation of Twisted Metal will be an action-comedy about a loud-mouthed traveler (John Doe) that happens upon a strange package in a post-apocalyptic wasteland that offers him a chance at a better life.

The Twisted Metal video game series revolves around a vehicular combat tournament hosted once a year by “Calypso” and offered to patients of the Blackfield Asylum. The winner of the enigmatic tournament that destroys all his opponents is granted one single wish by Calypso. Plagued with amnesia with frenzied confusion and uncontrollable rage, John Doe is one of the more mysterious characters with his storyline focussing on him figuring out his name and who he was. John Doe drives, Roadkill, a demolition derby muscle car armored with metal scraps and outfitted with the “Steel Dagger,” a large rusty rod weapon that is fired at 100 mph like a javelin.
