Getting our first long-awaited look at The Matrix: Resurrections with the first official trailer, we get a glimpse of the emerging conflict between man and machine in the Matrix. But just what can we expect from director Lana Wachowski‘s fourth installment in the franchise starring Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.
Taking a look at all the Easter eggs and details found in the trailer, we get a better idea of where the Matrix universe stands following the events of the original trilogy.
Aside from the return of Neo and Trinity struggling with their faint memories, the trailer starts with Neo living in the new Matrix pushed by occurrences of black cats and rabbits to discover the truth. The new Matrix looks to be a peaceful, futuristic world dominated by technology, which Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s potential young Morpheus character offers Neo a release from the Matrix with a familiar red pill and “time to fly” line.
Some other interesting elements include the contrasts of red and blue sported by characters which may suggest some sort of divide among the free and Neo sitting with a rubber duck on his head, a potential nod to “rubber duck debugging” in software engineering.
Catch all the Easter eggs and details you might have missed in The Matrix: Resurrections above. The fourth installment is now set to release December 22 and will be streamed on HBO Max 31 days after the theatrical release.
