After Netflix‘s critically acclaimed run for its crime series Luther, the streaming giant is planning on bringing Idris Elba and the storyline back in a form of a feature film. The film is set to be in association with the BBC.
Neil Cross, who originally penned the script and created the series is also writing the new film. while Jamie Payne is set to helm the feature as the director. The series centered around Elba’s character, John Luther, who is a London officer who is willing to go down the darkest paths to find his answers. The film earned the protagonist a series of awards including Critics Choice, Golden Globes and SAG awards.
The film is a continuation to the original storyline but follows Cynthina Erivo, who portrays another detective, as the nemesis of Elba. Andy Serkis is set to play the story’s villain.
There has yet to be release date announced for the Luther film.
