Joan Cornellà and AllRightsReserved have reunited for their latest collaborative piece, Free Hugs.
Crafted as a roly-poly man with no arms, the forthcoming vinyl figure, which stands at 5.8 inches tall, is ironically dressed in yellow with the words “FREE HUGS” printed on its chest. The piece arrives after Cornellà and ARR teamed up for the vibrant POOPY PANTS figure in June and the Bootyboop vinyl figure and rug from December 2020.
Speaking to HYPEBEAST during “Contemporary Showcase: My Life Is Pointless” — his biggest show to date in Hong Kong — about his relationship with ARR, he shared, “Yeah I think it makes sense for what my work is. It’s more democratic and there’s this high/low art thing about it. It’s something I should have done a long time ago and I’m not sure why I didn’t. The reception has been really good. I think people have been expecting this for a long time and it seems they want more.”
Joan Cornellà and AllRightsReserved’s Free Hugs figure is available on September 15 at the DDT Store and will begin shipping in October.
Elsewhere in art, Kehinde Wiley has been commissioned to reimagine the 18th century The Blue Boy painting.
