After massive anticipation from fans of the franchise, Sony Interactive Entertainment and Santa Monica Studio have finally offered a first look at the gameplay for the upcoming God of War: Ragnarök.
Picking up several years after the events of 2018’s God of War, Kratos and Atreus venture on in Midgard as the Fimbulwinter arrives, its harsh and chilling cold make survival tough for the father and son. Now with the knowledge of his Giant heritage, Atreus decides to dig deeper into his own past and ancestry, while Kratos is caught up with trying to protect and shade his son from the brutality of confronting the gods.
Despite this, it appears Kratos is still forced to go down that path once again, taking on the game’s two main enemies Freya and Thor. Once an ally, Freya has now sworn vengeance against Kratos over the death of her son Baldur, while Thor takes a similar stance in memory of his half-brother Loki and his own sons.
On top of a new storyline, God of War: Ragnarök will also feature new environments to explore and new mechanics to experience. You’ll now be able to visit all nine realms instead of the previous six from 2018, and also have more choice in the way you take on your foes through greater flexibility in combat strategy.
Unfortunately, there’s no precise release date yet for God of War: Ragnarök, but Sony says it’ll come out sometime in 2022. Fans of the franchise should definitely stay tuned for more updates to come.
Elsewhere in gaming, Gran Turismo 7 has finally announced a release date.
