Lil Nas X‘s awaited debut album MONTERO is officially set to release on September 17.
The young artist himself took to social media to confirm the news, sharing a teaser and a short message to accompany the announcement. “creating this album has been therapy for me. i’ve learned to let go of trying to control people’s perception of who i am, what i can do, and where i will be,” he wrote. “i’ve realized the only opinion of me that really matters is my own.”
His announcement arrives just shortly after eagle-eyed fans spotted a pre-save page for MONTERO on Apple Music, which revealed a September 17 release date. The upcoming record will feature a total of 15 tracks including previous singles “CALL ME BY YOUR NAME,” “SUN GOES DOWN” and “INDUSTRY BABY” with Jack Harlow.
Harper’s Bazaar recently confirmed that MONTERO will be out “later this month” as Lil Nas X was named the music director of its September issue. “I’ve learned that what makes someone iconic is when they’re able to be 100 percent themselves,” he said. “I’ve broken down barriers just by existing.”
