Beck goes undercover as a de-aged Paul McCartney in the mind-bending video for “Find My Way,” which employs controversial deepfake technology to swap the 51-year-old American alt legend into the body of the 79-year-old Beatle. The song from Macca’s remix album, McCartney III Imagined, comes to life thanks to director Andrew Donoho’s inventive visual, which uses technology from Hyperreal Digital, a company that specializes in creating hyper-real digital avatars.
In the visual for the funk-tinged remake of the song from the McCartney III album, FauxCartney takes a number of trips down the same stripe-y hotel hallway, dancing, popping and locking his way through the space as it gets overgrown with greenery.
“The technology to de-age talent and have them perform in creative environments like this is now fully-realized, even with one of the most recognized faces in the world,” said Hyperreal’s CEO Remington Scott in a statement about the clip that also has Beck-as-McCartney doing an arm-swinging dance in a psychedelic room filled with colorful shapes before getting transformed into a star-filled cosmic avatar. All is revealed in the end, when the real Beck emerges from behind the mask.
