Vic Mensa has released the music video for “Victory,” which comes off his latest EP, I Tape.
The video starts by stating that five exclusive tapes were hidden throughout Chicago, and that the winners of the scavenger hunt were picked up by Mensa.
Those five winners are seen throughout the film, as Mensa rides around the Chi in a black Lamborghini URS SUV, with a fitting license plate to match — ‘CHI 99.’ The video syncs well with the track, as the monochrome visuals toss and turn to the soulful Just Blaze-produced beat.
Mensa said in a release that his team was able to get the wild sport bike shots by using some careful maneuvering. “We spent the whole day running from the police,” said Mensa in a press release. “’Victory’ is a return to form for me…just pure lyricism and a foolish sample beat.”
The seven-track I Tape continues Mensa’s fight for the good cause and featured a variety of figures — from fellow Chicagoans, Chance the Rapper and Jeremih — to Wyclef Jean and Zacari.
For those who haven’t checked it out, Mensa recently went off on a 10-minute freestyle over DJ Premier’s “Nas is Like.”
