The second-generation BMW 2-series coupe has officially arrived and is set to be available in rear-wheel-drive 230i and an all-wheel-drive M240i xDrive model.
Different from the four-door 2-Series Gran Coupe, the two-door Coupe takes notes from the 3 Series and 4 Series. The latest model promises a longer and wider body, but its weight has been trimmed down due to the use of aluminum for its construction. The new Coupe appears to take on a more modest version of the BMW’s ever-expanding kidney grille design. The 2 Series sees a more conventional front end as opposed to the 4 Series. The car features the brand’s active air control flaps that promise greater aerodynamic efficiency.
The car is available in M Sport trim, followed by a dark gloss exterior trim and dark metallic finishes on the rear diffuser and lower skirt sections. With a rear lip spoiler, a dual-exit exhaust and 19-inch wheels, the M240i has an even sportier look. The interiors match the sleekness of the body with a standard, sleek black Alcantara and Snesatec man-made leather upholstery. The dashboards do not differ much from the 4 Series. Owners will be able to have the same 12.3-inch central screen and 10.25-inch instrument panel. Specific M-branded treadplates, pedals and floor mats are seen throughout the interior as well.
The M240i xDrive packs a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six, delivery 382 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque that is paired with a state-of-the-art all-wheel-drive system alongside BMW’s electronically controlled rear differential. The car boasts a 0 to 60 mph time in just 4.1 seconds. The car also comes with an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
The 2022 BMW 2-Series is set to arrive in the U.S. this November starting at $49,545 USD for the M240i xDrive and the $37,345 USD for the 230i.
