Paris Saint-Germain could soon complete the signing of Inter Milan wing-back Achraf Hakimi, as reported by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Negotiations between Inter and PSG over Hakimi’s deal are well underway, with the Nerazzurri demanding close to €70million to sanction the move.
The player has already found an agreement with the French powerhouse over a five-year contract and is keen to finalise things as soon as possible.
Despite lifting the Serie A crown in 2020/21, the Italian giants are suffering tremendous financial pressure and need to raise funds from player sales this summer.
Since the club already deemed in-demand duo Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku unsellable, Hakimi could fall victim to Inter’s desperate need of cash.
The 22-year-old is Mauricio Pochettino’s top priority following the signing of highly-rated goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who ran down his contract at AC Milan.
According to Romano, Hakimi could soon follow in the footsteps of his ex-Serie A rival and join the Ligue 1 giants in a high-profile deal.
Chelsea and Arsenal have also expressed interest in the Morocco international, but Les Parisiens seem to be on the verge of winning the race.
Hakimi enjoyed a stellar Serie A season in Antonio Conte’s 3-5-2 formation, mustering up seven goals and eight assists to finish the season as the most prolific defender in Europe’s top-five leagues.
His departure for Paris would represent a substantial €30m profit margin from what Inter forked out to take him away from Real Madrid in the last summer transfer window.
Additionally, the Nerazzurri would significantly lower their ballooning wage bill, considering Hakimi is the club’s fifth highest earner with a €5m-a-year contract.
