Hyundai’s Elantra N Looks Ready to Take on the Civic Type R in New Teaser Pics

Hyundai’s Elantra N Looks Ready to Take on the Civic Type R in New Teaser Pics

The release of two teaser images of the 2022 Elantra N indicates Hyundai has plans to reveal the sport sedan reasonably soon—surely before the end of the year. Back in November, however, we learned a few key details about the Elantra N, such as how much power its engine will put out, as well as other items related to the car’s dynamics, such as the fact it receives a multi-link rear suspension setup.

Power to the Masses

A 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine is set to live under the Elantra N’s hood. The little four-pot will produce 276 hp and 289 lb-ft of torque. Either a six-speed manual transmission and an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission will be available. In other words, the Elantra N will pack more power than a Volkswagen Golf GTI, but less than a Honda Civic Type R

During our time with the Elantra N, we walked away impressed with its agile handling and punchy powertrain. The suspension not only delivered a settled ride, but it also felt appropriately capable and connected.

Hyundai plans to complement the Elantra N’s extra grunt with a set of upgraded brakes and added aero elements. This includes functional air vents and a sizeable rear wing. Additional Elantra N-specific bits include special 19-inch wheels, badging, and racier-looking front and rear fascias

The blacked-out teasers published this week don’t reveal a lot of new information, as we saw the wheels and wing on the car we drove in November. Still, we’re excited to have another Hyundai vehicle bearing the N badge in the United States.
