I Went Street Style–Spotting in London, and These 16 Outfits Wowed Me

I Went Street Style–Spotting in London, and These 16 Outfits Wowed Me

After spending the first few months of 2021 in a nationwide lockdown, house-bound with very little reason to dress up, I’d forgive you for thinking you never wanted to see a pair of leggings again. And if so, you’re not alone.

As we slowly emerge from our collective hibernation and restrictions begin to ease across the country, there seems to be a renewed sense of enthusiasm that comes with getting dressed. Whether it be popping out for a quick coffee with a friend or venturing to your local park, Brits are finding reasons to dress up.

Proving exactly this sentiment, last month, photographer Michaela Efford and I ventured to East London’s Broadway Market (a hot spot for fashion lovers, if you don’t already know that) in search of some stylish individuals to photograph. On our way, we serendipitously came across familiar influencers, models-off-duty, fashion designers and other creatives, all of whom were strolling through their local shopping strip with style to boot.

From vintage leather jackets to spring-ready floral dresses and Converse high-tops by the dozen, keep scrolling to see what women are really wearing in London right now.

Style Notes: This was the first person we stopped to ask for a photo, and it just so happened to be Lizzy Hadfield, influencer extraordinaire of Shot From the Street fame. Once we spotted Lizzie, I just knew we were in the right place.

We were immediately drawn to Lizzi’s vintage patchwork jacket-and-jeans combo. There was an ease to her outfit that just made it feel effortless yet still so interesting and stylish. I guess there’s a reason she has over 500K followers.

Style Notes: Further proving just how stylish the crowd around London Fields is, we then spotted Anh Phoenix, a London-based model.

Phoenix, who had her adorable dog, Miu, in toe, was wearing a vintage leather jacket and Burberry shirt with a pair of wide-leg jeans. The model also sported a pair of Sunday Somewhere sunglasses and Converse x Comme des Garçons sneakers.

Style Notes: The first thing I noticed about Shea Goli was her incredibly chic Chanel loafers and bright-red jumper. She certainly knows how to elevate a casual coffee run.

Style Notes: Fashion designer Anna Pipkorn caught our eye thanks to her spring-ready outfit and insanely cute pup, Otto.

The creative was wearing a dress by Nobody’s Child (the brand she designs for) and paired the floral midi alongside a denim jacket, Loewe bag and Converse sneakers.

Style Notes: Influencer Madeleine Bugge Karlsen stood out at Broadway Market with this sophisticated look. Karlsen is wearing an Arket suit and Aiayu shirt paired with a Chloé bag and chunky sneakers.

Style Notes: Dull weather does not have to equal dull outfits. Stella Kattermann made quite the vibrant entrance in this floor-length green coat by Resume. The creative paired the item alongside a Ganni crossbody bag, New Balance trainers and Zara accessories.

Style Notes: This tailored look was one of my favourites of the day, seamlessly covering the bases of polished yet effortless. Silvia Avramut was wearing a vintage leather jacket with a men’s shirt underneath alongside Converse sneakers and sunglasses by Sunday Somewhere.

Style Notes: Casting Director Monika Domarke was quick to tell us her outfit was created with sustainability in mind. Her jacket is from a Copenhagen-based brand called (Di)vision, which uses upcycled materials, while her jeans are vintage Levi’s.

Style Notes: Frances Hewitt caught my attention with this orange gingham dress, which her friend made sure to mention that she made for herself. Frances paired the self-sewn frock with APC’s cult-adored Demi-Lune bag, an Everlane jacket and Converse high-tops.

Style Notes: Cindy’s & Other Stories jacket went to the top of my wish list after meeting her. She paired the versatile item with ASOS jeans and Dr. Marten sandals. Simple but very effective.

Style Notes: We spotted Chloe Lytton from across the park in this eye-catching green outfit, which consisted of cropped cable-knit and camo-print jacket. The accessories were truly a highlight of Chloe’s look, as she wore AlexaChung sunglasses and a Chloé necklace and finished the outfit with a Gucci bag.

Style Notes: From the Topshop trench coat to the Reebok trainers, this truly felt like a London outfit in every sense of the word. With salons re-opened, Coco had just had her hair cut, which explains the perfect precision of her bob.

Style Notes: Barbeline was another creative we spotted on Broadway Market, and she showcased yet another piece that was unique to her—this fun blouse was her very own design. Barbeline paired the printed top alongside a Toast jacket, Louis Vuitton bag and Dr. Martens pink sandals. Starting to see a trend here for DM sandals…

Style Notes: From the blazer to the leather trousers, there was a commitment to the aesthetic of this all-black look, which we spotted on Rosie. My favourite element? The Gucci shades, of course.

Style Notes: Leanne’s look was certainly one of the most fun outfits we saw along Broadway Market that day. I love the way she’s pared back a colourful stripe suit with a printed tee and sneakers.

Style Notes: I really liked the way Gema used bold, contrasting colours when putting this outfit together. With an eye like that, it’s little wonder she revealed she’s actually a photographer. The creative also told us her entire outfit was vintage.
