Obsidian, besides sounding like an awesomely regal name for the family pooch, is a glass-like volcanic rock that’s naturally black in color. However, outside of the natural world, it’s a term that’ll now be associated with the Jeep Wagoneer, specifically the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer Obsidian. As its name implies, this special Wagoneer family member comes adorned with elegant black cues. It’s the perfect touch of style and customization straight from the factory. Keep reading to get the lowdown on what makes the Grand Wagoneer Obsidian special.
What Is the Grand Wagoneer Obsidian, Anyway?
Even though the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer are the same vehicles at heart, only the latter offers the Obsidian kit. This means the Obsidian—like other Grand Wagoneer trims—comes standard with four-wheel-drive and a 6.4-liter V-8 churning out 471 hp and 455 lb-ft of torque.
The Obsidian is one of four Grand Wagoneer trims. Series I is the least expensive, least outfitted; Series II is the middle model; and Series III is the most expensive, most outfitted of the Wagoneer clan. Obsidian most aligns with a Series III but is technically classified on its own. As far as its price is concerned, the $100,995 Grand Wagoneer Obsidian falls between that of the $95,995 Series II and the $105,995 Series III trims.
The Obsidian might be characterized by black, but it is not limited to the Diamond Black exterior color. It will also be available in white, silver, and gray.
Obsidian Basics
No matter the color, though, the Grand Wagoneer Obsidian stands out from the rest of the Grand Wagoneer pack. Credit items such as 22-inch wheels with black inserts and a black grille, as well as black badging, exterior mirrors, and window trim. Inside, the Obsidian sports black interior decor including dark-hued chiseled-metal instrument panel trim and Piano Black appliques. Basically, the Obsidian has a healthy dose of straight-from-the factory flare that should satisfy the demand of those customers seeking the sinister, modern, and sleek style gained by trendy black accents.
Although the bulk of the Wagoner family is scheduled to go on sale before the middle of the year, the Grand Wagoneer Obsidian isn’t due to arrive until sometime after.
