The project was initially visualized as a nod to the online archives of Neil Young and The Grateful Dead, a portal to experience Barnett’s gigs at a time when touring was called off. But as the pandemic dragged on, the initiative developed into much more.
Barnett spread her wings with her debut 2015 album LP Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit, which cracked the Top 20 on both sides of the Atlantic, won the Australian Music Prize and Triple J’s prestigious J award for album of the year, and snagged a slew of APRA, ARIA and AIR Awards. The indie star was also nominated for the best new artist at the Grammy Awards, losing out to Meghan Trainor.
A collaborative album with Kurt Vile, 2017s Lotta Sea Lice, was a critical and commercial success. Barnett’s solo sophomore album, 2018’s Tell Me How You Really Feel, impacted the Top 10 in the U.K. and Australia.
Over the years, Barnett has played the biggest stages of them all, including festivals Coachella, Primavera Sound and Glastonbury, and iconic venues from the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles to London’s Brixton Academy and many others.
Barnett is also an award-winning indie label chief. Milk!, the label she established in 2012 with Jen Cloher, has twice gone on to win the AIR Award for best independent label.
To celebrate the new digital project, Barnett unlocks Live at the Corner Hotel, the full concert footage of her only full band live show of 2020, filmed during a heatwave in the midst of Australia’s worst ever bushfire season.
