Nick Cave and Warren Ellis are the musical equivalent of soulmates. Cave, the legendary singer and songwriter, and Ellis, the dynamic Bad Seed and Dirty Three violinist, have worked together for decades, in the studio and on the road. They’ve composed film scores, basically lived in each other’s pockets. They even counted on one another as bandmates, in Grinderman.
They’ve never cut an entire album of works as a duo, until now.
Cave and Ellis dropped the aptly-named Carnage at the stroke of midnight. It’s an album, explains Cave, an inductee in the ARIA Hall of Fame, that’s “a brutal but very beautiful record nested in a communal catastrophe.”
