As COVID-19 continues to ravage the United States, President Donald Trump has made headlines for something completely different — claiming that former President Barack Obama attempted to sabotage the Trump administration (or as he called it on Twitter, “Obamagate“).
But internet comedian Randy Rainbow says he can see right through the president’s favorite new conspiracy theory, and decided to point out exactly what he thinks the president is doing. On Tuesday (May 19), Rainbow uploaded a brand new parody song titled “Distraction,” set to the tune of “Tradition” from Fiddler on the Roof, where he calls out Trump’s attempts to change the narrative.
“So how does an unprepared reality TV host pretending to be the president deal with such an unprecedented crisis?” Rainbow says over the strains of a fiddle. “I can tell you in one word: distraction!”
First, Rainbow chided Trump for his obsession with the former president in a time when people are suffering immeasurable loss, singing “Thoussands of people dying on your watch/ And who is it you’re thinking of? Obama!”
But throughout the clip, Rainbow (dressed in various different costumes reminiscent of the 1964 musical) points out all of the other things Trump seems to be more focused on right now, including the upcoming election, his poll numbers, media coverage and much more, before ultimately declaring that we never should have expected anything different from him.
“We hoped that you might lead us with some dignity and tact,” he sings. “We thought you’d somehow grow from this/ But girl, you’re petty.”
