88rising Is Bringing Its Head in the Clouds Music Festival to New York

88rising launched its renowned Head in the Clouds music festival five years ago in Los Angeles. Dedicated to celebrating Asian talent, the media company has since brought the fest to Jakarta and Manila, and now, Head in the Clouds will travel to New York for its first installment in the city.

The move not only brings the festival before a fresh audience of people who love 88rising artists but also signifies a homecoming of sorts. The company was founded in 2015 by current CEO Sean Miyashrio when he was living in the Bronx.

“I didn’t know what 88rising was gonna be, but I thought it was gonna be better than anything else because there was nothing like it at the time,” Miyashiro told Hypebeast in a recent interview. “Still, I had never put out a record, helped make a song, signed an artist or anything like that. I was just trying to build a home on the internet to celebrate Asian creatives that I liked.”

Slated across May 20 and 21 at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, Head in the Clouds New York coincides with the 100th anniversary of the outdoor venue.

The first half of the event on Saturday will see ITZY, Rich Brian, Beabadoobee, MILLI, Akini Jing, DUMBFOUNDEAD, FiFi ZHANG, Hojean and more take the stage.

The next day, on Sunday, will follow with performances from NIKI, DPR Live, DPR Ian, XG, Atarashii Gakko!, Dabin, Knock2, LØREN and Masiwei, among others.

Registration for a presale for tickets to Head in the Clouds New York is open now. The presale will open on Friday, March 17, with a sale for the general public on Monday, March 20.
