As an editor, it’s my job to be impartial about the fashion I showcase to you. Not everything is necessarily something I would personally wear—I’ve been trained to look beyond that; to instead seek out impressive finds that’ll work for different people and styles. This is perhaps the biggest difference between editors and influencers—a question I’m commonly asked—in that influencers present pieces that are a true representation of themselves. In turn, this makes them so fascinating to follow; find an influencer whose style you love and speaks to your own, and you’ve struck sartorial gold. They become something of your own personal shopper and make it incredibly easy to build upon your existing wardrobe by spotlighting options you’re probably going to like. And for that, we owe them a debt of gratitude.
As such, I’m always keen to learn what makes my influencer friends tick, and with spring well and truly on the horizon, what better time is there to ask seven of my favourite fashion people what’s on their wish lists for the season ahead. Seeing as they all have very different aesthetics, I was surprised to find each of them stuck to a largely neutral colour palette (proving that 2022 is indeed the year of classic style), while the same brands—think COS, Jigsaw, Frankie Shop, and Totême—kept cropping up, too.
