8 Albums Out This Week You Should Listen to Now

With so much good music being released all the time, it can be hard to determine what to listen to first. Every week, Pitchfork offers a run-down of significant new releases available on streaming services. This week’s batch includes new albums from Father John Misty, Vince Staples, Pavement, Syd of the Internet, Romero, Wet Leg, Omar Apollo, and Grizzly Bear’s Daniel Rossen. Subscribe to Pitchfork’s New Music Friday newsletter to get our recommendations in your inbox every week. (All releases featured here are independently selected by our editors. Father John Misty: Chloë and the Next 20th Century [Sub Pop]

Nearly four years after proclaiming himself God’s Favorite Customer, Joshua Tillman sweeps through as Father John Misty again with the ornate Chloë and the Next 20th Century. His latest LP is a foray into a cynically tinted dream world, indebted to the sounds of classic Hollywood heartbreak and romance. He makes a slippery gambit for affection on “Funny Girl,” and “Q4” arrived with a video that’s an extended opening credits sequence for a film. A deluxe edition of Chloë comes with a 7″ of Lana Del Rey and David Lynch (credited as Jack Cruz) covering songs from the record. Read Anna Gaca’s review of Chloë and the Next 20th Century, which she says “feels designed to age well because it sounds a bit ageless.”
