A 75-year-old man who says he is as mentally and physically strong as he has ever been is opening up about the tips and techniques he uses to stay in tip top shape as he ages.

Ng Kok Song, from Singapore, revealed in a recent TikTok video that he came up with a lifestyle regimen made up of six key components, which he credits with ensuring he remains in perfect health.

And for anyone who wants to follow Ng’s guidance, he has come up with the perfect acronym to track his tips: SHIELD.

‘Shield means armor to protect yourself,’ he explained in the clip, which has been viewed more than 3.6 million times.

The financer broke down what his acronym meant and how he implemented it in his every day life.

‘S is sleep, seven hours,’ the 75-year-old said.

H stands for how you handle stress – with Ng urging everyone to try meditating, which he swears has helped him manage pressure and anxiety.

‘I stands for interaction,’ he explained. ‘In other words, engage in conversation.’

He next stressed the importance of exercise (E), saying he did something active everyday.

‘I either play a bit of tennis, a bit of golf,’ he explained.

‘I walk the [golf] course,’ he explained. ‘I try to swim and I [garden].’

Ng also spoke about how important it was to always keep learning, saying he was always trying to make sure he was challenging himself.

‘Learn, learn something,’ he urged. ‘Even at this age, learn something.’

Singapore's Ng says he uses the acronym SHIELD to keep himself healthy as he grows older.
TikTok users loved Ng's advice for a healthy life, many saying they planned to adopt his acronym

‘So now I’m trying to learn some simple technology,’ he added. ‘So, for example, I learn to edit videos.’

‘You have to have moderate your intake of carbohydrates,’ he said. ‘Low carbohydrate, sugar.’

Ng also makes sure to eat ‘plenty’ of fruits and vegetables.

Users flocked to the comments section to thank Ng for his advice.

‘This is awesome advice thank you!’ a third person said.

It’s not only Ng who implements these tips for healthy living.

Earlier in the year, a major US study looked at eight important habits of a healthy lifestyle – including not smoking, having a good diet, sleeping well and managing stress.

They found adopting these eight healthy habits in middle age could lengthen your life by decades.

The habits included being physically active — more than about 30 minutes a day of moderate to vigorous physical activity

Not smoking, and having a good diet that’s high in fruit and vegetables was also named on the list.

Other things included not regularly binge drinking by avoiding more than four drinks a day, getting enough sleep — aiming for seven to nine hours of sleep a night — and having positive social relationships, such as leaning on a close person to talk to about problems.

The study also discussed stress management — based on how well people cope with high-pressure situations — and being free of opioid addiction.

Women with all eight of these habits at the age of 40 could live an average of 21 years longer than those with none, a study found.

Men aged 40 with all eight habits could expect to live 24 years longer on average than those with zero.
