5 Uplifting Moments in Latin Music This Week (January 23)

Argentine pop star Lali will soon shine on the small screen as part of the Netflix series Sky Rojo. From the creators of the hit drama Money Heist, including producers Vancouver Media, Álex Pina and Esther Martinez Lobato, the action-packed series also stars Verónica Sánchez, Asier Etxeandia, Miguel Ángel Silvestre, Yany Prado and Enric Auquer. According to an official press release, Sky Rojo is “based on three ferocious women, Coral (Veronica Sanchez), Wendy (Lali) and Gina (Yany Prado) who flee in search of their freedom while being pursued by their pimp, Romeo (Asier Etxeandia) and his henchmen Moisés (Miguel Ángel Silvestre) and Christian (Enric Auquer), who are part of the Club de Las Novias.” Sky Rojo, which is confirmed for two seasons with eight episodes of 25 minutes each, premieres March 19.

Latinos at the Inauguration

Latinos shined throughout the festive presidential inauguration on Wednesday (Jan. 20). First off, Jennifer Lopez performed a medley of “This Land Is Your Land” and “America the Beautiful” at the 59th Inaugural Swearing-In Ceremony of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. Later that afternoon, Mariachi Joya de Las Vegas High School, in addition to a slew of Puerto Rican marching bands and more, formed part of the virtual “Parade Across America” event. To wrap up the night, Puerto Rican stars Ozuna and Luis Fonsi joined DJ Cassidy’s “Pass the Mic” as part of the Celebrating America primetime special.

Pina Records, the record label founded by Rafael “Raphy” Pina in 1996, has surpassed 10 million subscribers on its official YouTube channel. Created July 2, 2008, the channel has garnered more than 3.8 billion views, which includes hit music videos by artists such as Natti Natasha, RKM & Ken-Y, Plan B, Zion & Lennox, Tony Dize, Arcángel, and many more. At over 479 million views, the channel’s most-watched video is “Tonta” by RKM y Ken-Y and Natti Natasha. With this new milestone, Pina Records’ channel will receive the Diamond Creator Award play button.
