3 takeaways from Texas' loss to Baylor - The Dallas Morning News

Here are 3 takeaways from Texas’ 81-72 loss to Baylor:

Dylan Disu shines

There weren’t many good things going for the Longhorns in Waco, but senior forward Dylan Disu was the lone star in Saturday’s loss. Disu put up 24 points, two assists and four rebounds before fouling out. Disu’s career high of 29 points was set when he was still playing for Vanderbilt. While Disu led Texas in scoring, the team’s usual sharpshooters were not able to get going. Texas was 45% from the field and 37% from three. Not ideal, to say the least, especially with March being less than a week away.

Doing more with less

Texas had a great start to begin the game and got an 18-4 lead. Baylor’s star freshman Keyonte George also left the first half of the game with an ankle injury and did not return. Texas was only down by two points at halftime, but Baylor somehow powered through to expand its lead. Texas won the turnover battle with 15 turnovers to 21 Baylor turnovers, but the Bears managed to get more points off of turnovers than the Longhorns did.

Sense of urgency

There are only two regular season games left for Texas, and both will be difficult challenges. The Longhorns head to Fort Worth on Tuesday night to take on a TCU team that just stifled Texas Tech’s NCAA tournament hopes with a 76-75 win in Lubbock. Texas’ final regular season game will be a home game against Kansas, who currently holds an 8-2 away record in conference play. This would be the worst possible time to start a losing streak, with the Big 12 tournament and NCAA tournament coming up in literal weeks.
