If we had to call out one jacket style we saw more than any other at London Fashion Week this season, it would be the blazer. There were dramatic oversized styles and bold pops of colour, classic black and leather finishes—it’s incredible how varied one item of clothing can be appear when interpreted by different people with different style personalities. It also demonstrated how the blazer is one of the most versatile and timeless items of clothing you can own, and thankfully, it’s also something that looks great at every price point.
The high street has certainly upped its game in the tailoring stakes over the last few years, with brands such as Arket and COS delivering premium pieces at purse-friendly prices. I personally own one checked blazer from Arket, which I got for Christmas around five years ago, and it still looks as good as the day I received it.
The other reason I’m a long-time blazer devotee is that it is such a blank canvas from which to project your own style. Throw on a black tuxedo blazer with red lipstick and feel very YSL Le Smoking, or opt for a bold shade of pink or green and see your wardrobe basics look 10 times more interesting.
