2022 Infiniti QX55 Coupe-UV Thing Costs More Than QX50, Has Less Space

2022 Infiniti QX55 Coupe-UV Thing Costs More Than QX50, Has Less Space

The 2022 QX55 is Infiniti’s spiritual successor to the discontinued QX70 neè FX, a fastback-style crossover designed to be a better-looking version of your typical upright, Wonderbread-bland SUV. (In this case, the regular QX50 compact luxury crossover.) It’s a way of telling the world you want an SUV but you’re also, you know, hip. You’re with it. You appreciate style over practicality. Oh, and that you enjoy paying more for the experience. Infiniti has released pricing for the QX55, its BMW X4 and Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe competitors, and go figure, it’s pricier than the QX50.

2021 Infiniti QX55 Trim Levels

Starting at $47,525, the QX55 is nearly ten grand more expensive than the cheapest QX50 ($38,975). That said, the QX55 isn’t available in the QX50’s “Pure” base trim or without all-wheel drive, instead starting out with that model’s mid-level “Luxe” setup right out of the gate with AWD included. Taking that into account, the QX55’s price premium over an equivalent QX50 is only $3,000. As a bonus, the Infiniti is cheaper to start than its direct competitors, the BMW X4 and Mercedes GLC Coupe.

With the Luxe treatment, the entry-level QX55 gets a bunch of nifty niceties you’d expect of a luxury product. Heated seats, standard Apple CarPlay, a sun roof, 20-inch wheels, and active noise cancelling all come standard.

Step up to the Essential trim, and you’ll have to fork over at least $52,625. Heated and cooled seats, a surround view camera, a heated steering wheel, and a Bose sound system with 16 speakers for added “thump” are included. If you wanted to go all the way and opt for the range-topping Sensory model, scrounge together at least $58,075 and then enjoy the model’s three zone climate control, ambient interior lighting, a motion activated liftgate, semi-aniline leather, and open pore wood accents.

Mechanically, the QX55 is identical to the QX50, so a 268-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder is standard across the range. That power is routed through a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) to all four wheels regardless of trim.

Every QX55 comes with a suite of active safety features, including forward emergency braking with pedestrian detection, forward collision warning, automatic high beams, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, and a rear cross-traffic alert.

The sultry crossover SUV also includes less practicality than you’d get with a QX50. The QX55 has 26.9 cubic feet of cargo space to work with—five fewer than its ordinarily shaped QX50 sibling—but still offers 8.6 inches of ground clearance for the occasional trip up or down a dirt road. Buyers looking for this coupe SUV can expect to see it in dealerships by spring of this year.

  • QX55 Luxe: $47,525
  • QX55 Essential: $52,625
